McVey vs. Ewert
Middleweights
Jackson McVey (6-0, 0-0 UFC) vs. Christopher Ewert (7-0, 0-0 UFC)ODDS: N/A
Two organizational newcomers square off in this late-notice affair. McVey is clearly getting to the UFC too early, but he has some interesting tools as a long-term prospect. He’s absolutely massive for the middleweight division and has the requisite level of violence to his game, showing the ability to land some brutal offense in the clinch while having some neat grappling tricks in his bag. He’s also completely untested in terms of facing adversity, running through each of his opponents within a round. Perhaps Chile’s Ewert can be the first man who can test McVey, as “El Tanke” has a bit more polish to his approach. Ewert has his own finishing ability, scoring five first-round finishes in seven professional fights, but he has also successfully put together two decision wins that show he can take his foot off the gas and coast to a victory as needed. McVey’s dynamism seems like the safest bet, but this is a fight full of question marks. The pick is McVey via first-round stoppage.
