By The Numbers: UFC Des Moines Pre-Fight Edition


The Ultimate Fighting Championship will set up shop in the Hawkeye State for the first time since 2000, as Cory Sandhagen puts his skills to the test against Deiveson Figueiredo in the five-round UFC on ESPN 67 bantamweight main event this Saturday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. Meanwhile, undefeated American Top Team export Bo Nickal meets former two-division ONE Championship titleholder Reinier de Ridder in the three-round co-headliner at 185 pounds.

Ahead of UFC on ESPN 67 “Sandhagen vs. Figueiredo,” a look at some of the numbers the fighters on the docket bring to the table:

1,108: Total strikes landed by Sandhagen as a UFC bantamweight, placing him eighth on the promotion’s all-time list at 135 pounds. Only Merab Dvalishvili (2,092), Aljamain Sterling (1,670), Petr Yan (1,628), T.J. Dillashaw (1,522), Pedro Munhoz (1,452), Marlon Vera (1,367) and Rob Font (1,363) have connected with more.

64: Rounds started by Figueiredo as a professional mixed martial artist. He has gone the distance on nine different occasions and carries a 6-2-1 record in those bouts.

3: Sub-minute stoppages on the Nickal resume. He punched out John Noland in 33 seconds at an iKon Fighting Championship show on June 3, 2022, tapped Donovan Beard with a triangle choke in 52 seconds on Week 10 of Dana White’s Contender Series on Sept. 27, 2022 and disposed of Valentine Woodburn with punches in 38 seconds at UFC 290 on July 8, 2023.

13: De Ridder wins by submission, accounting for 68% of his career total. His methods of choice: five rear-naked chokes, three arm-triangle chokes, two armbars, one triangle choke, one brabo choke and one inverted triangle choke.

6: Organizations other than the UFC for which Daniel Rodriguez has suited up. They are Smash Global, Dana White’s Contender Series, Combate Global, California Xtreme Fighting, Bellator MMA and King of the Cage. Rodriguez tackles Santiago Ponzinibbio in a three-round welterweight showcase.

17: Ponzinibbio victories by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 57% of his career total (30). His list of UFC victims: Carlston Harris, Alex Morono, Neil Magny, Gunnar Nelson, Court McGee, Andreas Stahl and Wendell de Oliveira Marques.

47: Seconds needed for Daniel Marcos to cut down Luis Zuniga with a flying knee under the 300 Sparta banner on April 28, 2017. More than eight years later, it remains his fastest finish to date. Marcos locks horns with Montel Jackson in a three-round bantamweight feature.

100,000: Dollars in post-fight bonuses pocketed by Jackson across his 10 appearances in the UFC. He has been awarded “Performance of the Night” twice.

27: Years of age for Cameron Smotherman. The youngest fighter on the card, he was born on Sept. 17, 1997 in Houston. Smotherman toes the line against Serhiy Sidey in a three-round bantamweight attraction.

7: Consecutive calendar years in which Sidey has fought at least once. He went 3-0 in 2018, 1-0 in 2019, 0-1 in 2020, 2-0 in 2021, 1-0 in 2022, 3-0 in 2023 and 1-1 in 2024.

38: Years of age for Jeremy Stephens. The oldest fighter on the card, he was born on May 26, 1986 in Des Moines, Iowa. Stephens squares off with former two-division Cage Warriors Fighting Championship titleholder Mason Jones in a three-round lightweight appetizer.

15: Men other than Jones who have held the Cage Warriors lightweight crown. Steven Ray (twice), Conor McGregor, Paul Sutherland, Alexandre Izidro, Kenneth Rosfort, Matt Veach, Ivan Musardo, Ivan Buchinger, Chris Fishgold, Soren Bak, Jai Hebert, Agy Sardari, Joe McColgan, George Hardwick and Samuel Silva comprise the list.

.759: Cumulative winning percentage between the 22 fighters booked to compete at the event. They sport a combined record of 352-111-3. Ponzinibbio has the most wins (30) of anyone on the card, while Stephens has been saddled with the most losses (21).
