Sean Strickland Temporarily Suspended for Storming Cage at Tuff-N-Uff 145
Ultimate Fighting Championship star Sean
Strickland may soon learn that there are actually some
consequences to his actions.
The Nevada Athletic Commission posted its upcoming Notice of Meeting and Agenda for its meeting on July 23 in Las Vegas. On the “New Business” portion of the document, the commission listed that one of its actions will be to determine the suspension length for Strickland, which is currently indefinite but temporary. The former middleweight title challenger rushed the victorious Luis Hernandez after a submission win at Tuff-N-Uff 145 at the end of June.
After Hernandez submitted Strickland’s teammate Miles
Hunsinger, Hernandez issued a few gestures including the crotch
chop made famous in pro wrestling. This did not sit well with
Hunsinger’s corner, which included both Strickland and fellow UFC
fighter Chris
Curtis. While Curtis only ended up grabbing Hernandez,
Strickland threw and landed two punches, including one to the face.
No word had been handed down publicly about the corner interference
violation, but behind-the-scenes, Strickland alone has been
suspended for his conduct.
Shortly after Hernandez’ win, he suggested that Strickland should not be punished for what transpired on June 29. The police officer laughed off most of the antics, while pouring cold water on pressing charges on the violating competitors. He even wishes them well despite what transpired. The commission was unmoved by his claims, scheduling Strickland's temporary suspension extension for the upcoming meeting.
“When the whole moment happened itself, you see me laughing,” Hernandez remarked. “I want to show there’s two sides: I have my career, and then inside the cage, I’m able to have fun…At work I’m a professional being in law enforcement, and I have to everything by the book…It’s like I get to flip the switch, enjoy myself and I honestly think things escalated. I didn’t expect that at all. You see me, I’m laughing, I didn’t expect what happened to happen…I didn’t think [Strickland] was going to take it personal, because I’m pretty sure he does a lot of talking in the cage.
He continued, saying, “I really have nothing [against] them, and hope the commission does not…like they even asked me, ‘Hey, you’re gonna press charges?’ I’m like, ‘What? No.’ I would never want anything to happen to these guys because I actually like them…I have nothing against Sean, nothing against Chris, nothing against Xtreme Couture.”
